Job Description and Requirements:
The Economic Development Manager will serve in a management position that’s primary duties will be to manage and administer City programs and activities associated with Economic Development, including business retention/expansion/attraction and workforce development. The ideal candidate will have advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of economic development programming and administration. The candidate should have exceptional oral and written communications skills while demonstrating the ability to tactfully foster and maintain positive working relationships when dealing with the public. Under the direction of the Planning Director, the ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to assist in the planning, directing, supervising, and coordinating of a program to generate and promote redevelopment and economic development strategies and activities throughout the City.
Essential Job Functions:
• Development, Certification & Maintenance of the City’ Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS).
• Focuses on recruitment and retention of businesses and industries.
• Develops plans to improve the City’s revenue growth, create new jobs and promote a well-balanced and sustainable local economy.
• Works closely with other departments in coordinating the City’s economic development efforts.
• Directs the development, coordination and evaluation of economic development programs and projects.
• Conducts special studies and prepares comprehensive reports related to economic issues.
• Prepares and analyzes economic data/reports to determine the economic feasibility or potential of specific redevelopment, transportation or land use plans.
• Coordinates with other agencies and organizations on regional economic development activities.
• Prepares comprehensive written reports for department action or for City Council, other City boards and Commissions; makes oral presentations; and prepares reports required for State or Federal agencies or other interested parties.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Employees must be at least 18 years of age, and must be legally able to accept work in the United States.
Experience, Training and/or Education:
Any combination of experience, training, and education which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job will be considered.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in economics, urban planning, public or business administration or related field; Master’s degree in an appropriate field preferred.
• Three to five years of progressive economic development, urban planning, public administration, economics, business administration, or closely related field, experience with a track record of developing and implementing business attraction and retention programs. Supervisory experienced is preferred.
• Professional certification with the International Economic Development Council is preferred. If the incumbent does not possess this certification, he/she should be able to obtain it within one year of assuming the position. (Certified Economic Developer)
• Written/spoken fluency in a foreign language is beneficial, particularly Spanish, Korean, or Chinese.
Other Requirements:
Failure to: (1) obtain and maintain all required certifications, licenses, and commissions as required; or (2) failure to successfully complete all required training; or (3) failure to meet other job requirements may result in discipline, up to and including termination of employment.
1. Possession of a valid Georgia Driver's License (Class C) is required within 30 days of hire, and must be maintained throughout employment.

Salary:
$50,000 - $65,000 DOQ
