The University of Georgia is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as the Archway Professional in Sumter County, Georgia. The Archway Partnership Project was initiated to bring the University of Georgia’s expertise to communities and to facilitate community interaction with the University of Georgia. The Archway Partnership Project has received funding from the Board of Regents to continue and expand to other communities and to enhance access to all of higher education.

General: The Archway Professional will spend approximately 80% of their time in the county and region and about 20% on the Athens campus. The Archway Professional serves as the portal to the full resources of the University of Georgia. The Archway Partnership Project is built on the premise of easy access to the University of Georgia and effective delivery of University of Georgia resources. In this regard, the Archway Professional is the point of contact in the community and as such represents the entire University.

Job Description: The Archway Professional is the lead person in the Archway Portal County that works with community leaders to identify and address local needs. The Archway Professional reports to the Director of Archway Operations and works collaboratively with the local UGA faculty. The Archway Professional will: a) organize the community according to the template used in Archway counties, b) lead the meetings of the Executive Committee and the Steering Committee and attend meetings of the Issue Work Groups, c) assist the community in prioritizing their needs, d) coordinate Archway activities with other local University System of Georgia institutions and state agencies, e) work with the Director of Archway Operations to formulate county and regional priorities, f) visit the University of Georgia campus to convey local needs to faculty, students, and administrators, and g) help facilitate student and faculty involvement in local projects.

Qualifications: Bachelors degree, excellent interpersonal skills and experience in Community and Economic Development, conducting community forums, facilitating group processes are required. Familiarity with the local community and University of Georgia schools, colleges, and institutes is desirable. Candidate should have commensurate qualifications for appointment as a Public Service faculty member. Per recent Board of Regents’ policy, successful candidate will be required to submit to a background investigation.
