at the top of the economic development profession? Apply for a
scholarship from GEDA to help you meet your goals! A key part of GEDA’s
mission is the professional development and continuing education of its
members. In addition to the listed scholarships and grants, the
Professional Development Committee assists in sponsoring the Basic
Economic Development Course at Georgia Tech, the Development Authority
Execs Skills Institute, and a study group for GEDA members preparing for
the CEcD examination. In total, GEDA’s
professional development investments for 2008 are nearly $15,000!
Eligible applicants for the following six (6) GEDA
scholarship programs - Basic Economic Development Course, Certified
Economic Developer (CEcD) Exam, Economic Development Finance
Professional (EDFP) courses, GEDA Annual Conference, GEDA Spring
Workshop, and International Economic Development Council (IEDC) courses
- are all GEDA members in good standing. Financial need is the leading
criterion, and among otherwise equally qualified applicants, preference
will be given to local practitioners.
Eligible applicants for the Development Authority
Executive Skills Institute at UGA include GEDA members who are in good
standing and hold an executive position with an economic development
agency. Financial need is the leading criterion.
Eligible applicants for the Penn Worden Professional
Development Grant for GEDA Membership are local economic development
practitioners, employed or volunteer, with chambers of commerce,
development authorities or both who represent counties not currently
represented in GEDA. Financial need is the leading criterion.
The successful scholarship applicant is responsible for
all record keeping on expenses. The scholarship is a reimbursement of
expenses for up to the stated amount. The recipient must pay for all
expenses of the event or program and will then reimbursed up to the
scholarship amount after submitting qualified expenses to the Chair of
the Professional Development Committee. Expenses must be submitted
within 90 days of the event or program.
