The Search.

The Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce, located in Jefferson, Georgia, has initiated an executive search for a Director, Economic Development. The Chason Group (TCG) has been retained to lead the process for the business organization.

The Location.

Jackson County is located just 62 miles northeast of Atlanta and approximately 20 miles north of Athens, Georgia.

The Position.

The Director, Economic Development operates under the Chamber’s umbrella of services through an agreement with the Jackson County Industrial Development Authority and Jackson County Board of Commissioners. The professional will provide vision, strategic direction, and management for the programs and activities associated with economic development.

The Director, Economic Development is responsible for all aspects of the Chamber’s economic development program and works closely with the Chamber President, and the Jackson County Industrial Development Authority Board, and the Jackson County Board of Commissioners. The Director will report directly to the Chamber President.

More About the Position.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in the area(s) of economic development, community development, real estate, public relations, public administration, business, economics, and/or marketing from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience.
• At least one year of experience in the business, economic development, and/or community development field, chamber of commerce, association, or a combination of these.  Experienced team builder and leader who will effectively represent Jackson County in many environments.
• A proven track record of successfully working with economic development organizations, governments, and community stakeholders.
• The completion of Economic Development Institute is desired but not required.

Communication Skills

• Ability to develop and nurture value-added relationships with diverse businesses, governments, community groups, and individuals on local, state, and national levels.
• Ability to make oral presentations to persuade others to accept a specific opinion, action, and/or provide information or explain procedures, policies, etc.
• Excellent written communication and marketing skills that will enhance the development initiatives undertaken by the Chamber and Industrial Development Authority.
• Outstanding listening skills to clearly understand positions and instructions.
