Job Description
As ED Specialist/Manager, you will have the opportunity to oversee and lead work across various components of the economic development lifecycle including but not limited to the following focus areas: business retention and expansion (BRE), regional and statewide recruitment, data collection and assessment, and strategic program management.
What does this look like day-to-day?
Business Retention & Expansion
Serve as a trusted partner, advisor, and advocate for existing Roswell businesses— bringing energy to help solve problems, make connections, or provide resources to enable retention and growth of our existing, vibrant business community.
Function as a “go-to” resource for the business community, understanding the dynamics of doing business in Roswell and advising on all stages of the business lifecycle (e.g. permitting, zoning, licensing, etc.) Serve as a partner with the city and other stakeholders (e.g. developers, development authority, etc.) to identify and advocate for key redevelopment and investment opportunities.
Regional and Statewide Recruiting
Generate and respond to new business leads assisting with site selection and identifying key data and relevant resources to position Roswell as a competitive community.
Serve as a point-of-contact for business attraction partners (e.g. commercial brokers, site selection consultants, state and utility partners, chamber partners, etc.) to respond to RFIs and inquiries as needed to position Roswell as a competitive community.
Tools, Data, and Records
Apply key data sets and tools to support the business retention and recruitment lifecycles (e.g. CoStar, Placer, Department of Labor, Census Bureau, city data, etc.).
Understand where and how to source information (e.g. through key partners, subscriptions, public sources, etc.).
Continuously seek new and relevant solutions to aid in building the case for why Roswell is a great place to live, work, play, and do business.
Maintain excellent data records and document all key economic development activities through our CRM system.
Serve as owner of contacts and deliverables with partners and vendors on activities, including feasibility studies, strategic plans, ReSimplifi, The Retail Coach, etc. Build and maintain relationships with these partners and ensure products and services meet defined expectations.
Strategic Program Management
Oversee Roswell Inc’s partner program—Roswell Economic Development Alliance (EDA), made up of key stakeholders within the Roswell business community. Seek strategies to not only maintain the alliance, but provide continuous and innovative programming and networking opportunities to connect Roswell industries with each other as well as other key partners including the CRE community, city and community leaders, workforce providers, etc. Identify and own other potential opportunities for programming, products, or services that would aid in delivering the mission and vision of Roswell Inc.
Strategic Relationships and Communications
Building and maintaining relationships is a critical skill for this role. Economic Development is a team sport—collaboration and highly-functional working relationships are necessary. Establish and maintain relationships with the following entities, including but not limited to: Georgia Department of Economic Development Georgia Department of Community Affairs Local and regional chambers Utility partners Neighboring city and county partners Roswell government and elected officials Key Roswell business leaders and community stakeholders Small business resource partners This role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills across diverse digital media as well as presenting to small and large audiences.
Skills & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Planning or other Economic Development related field 3-5 years of experience in economic development, community development, commercial real estate or other related field Strong written and verbal communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills, establishing and fostering professional relationships Strong collaboration skills with outside agencies, businesses, municipal officials and peers Self motivated with the ability to self manage, multitask and work independently High attention to detail with strong organizational skills Skilled at collecting and analyzing data related to commercial real estate and retail markets. Experience with Placer & CoStar preferred. Strong computer skills with proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, and others as determined.
