Lee County Chamber of Commerce & Development Authority
The Lee County Georgia Chamber of Commerce and Development Authority is seeking candidates for the position of Executive Director. The current Executive Director will be retiring the start of 2021. The chamber and development authority is a public/private partnership. Interviews will take place during September 2020 with employment starting January 2021. This position is the primary recruiter and point of contact for economic development efforts to enhance the community’s economic base.
The position requires the cultivation of partnerships with public officials, economic development agencies, and business representatives and citizen stakeholders. The position also requires an understanding of the principles and practices of economic development, marketing, industrial/commercial recruitment, small business development and entrepreneurship, financial incentives, and land development. The position also directs and oversees the day to day operations of the Chamber of Commerce including all events, leadership course, membership recruiting and retention, and other related activities of the chamber.
Lee County is a unique rural community in Southwest Georgia. Our population continues to grow; the average household income exceeds the state’s average; and the school system continues to be rated among the best systems in the state. A study was done along with a SWOT analysis which directed economic development efforts towards commercial recruitment for the purpose of increasing tax base with property taxes along with local option sales taxes. This revenue helps with underwriting local government services generated by the increasing population. Tax payer investments for the purposes of economic development have been geared towards additional infrastructure to entice commercial investments. The commercial tax base has increased by over 360% in the last 17 years.
Qualifications for a candidate to be successful will include but are not limited to:
• experience in chamber and economic development is a must
• leadership experience with office and elected officials
• preparing and managing a yearly budget exceeding $600,000
• thriving in a team centered working environment
• real estate development specializing in commercial and retail
• clear understanding of economic incentives including local, state, and federal
• Post-secondary education along with certifications are a plus.
