July 2024 Chair's Column

What’s up?

I can’t believe we’re already halfway through the year. It feels like just yesterday we were wrapping up our annual meeting and welcoming our friends over from Ireland for Savannah’s 200th St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Talk of the upcoming football season and the many fall activities is picking up, and before we know it, we’ll all be together again at the GEDA Annual Conference back here in Savannah.

While summer is still in full swing and some of the typical after-hours meetings aren’t back in session yet, I would like to reserve some time in July to reflect and think ahead.

We’ve made it to Q3. If our New Year’s Resolutions didn’t stick (do anyone’s?), this is the time to reassess and face the reality that we have six more months of 2024 to accomplish those things we said we would in January. Or maybe some of those original intentions don’t quite align with the path we’re on anymore and need to be discarded completely.

Regardless, July and August are great housekeeping months. Now is the time to adjust our expectations, revise our goals and get back into gear to ensure we finish the year strong. Whether it’s a broad and lofty goal like crossing the finish line with a new development in your county or something more personal like training for a 5k, you’ve got 168 days left to work towards that thing in 2024. As the SEDA team hears me say, make it happen!
