The Manager of Economic Development & Tourism is responsible for marketing Canton to promote economic development and tourism to the area, creating a positive economic impact for the community. Work involves research and implementation of programs to recruit and expand businesses, encouraging travel to the community, and promoting opportunities for economic growth through traditional and innovative means. The professional would be responsible for leading, directing, and implementing strategies and initiatives to attract, retain, and expand businesses within the City of Canton.
Other responsibilities include: developing and executing tourism and marketing plans and programs to attract investment for Canton; oversees the operation of local visitor center initiatives including the creation of collateral materials for distribution, outreach through the City’s website and social media, collaboration with press releases and advertising; and develops strategies, programs, policies, and networking activities to support small businesses throughout Canton. The manager represents the City of Canton during client meetings and partnership opportunities.
Partnership will be a key component of success of this position. Partnering with existing staff members, the Communications & Marketing Specialist and the Downtown Development Manager will aid in the development of programs for marketing, advertising, outreach, and engagement to grow our local economy and community profile. The successful candidate will coordinate with economic development and tourism efforts with other local and regional partners including Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, Georgia Department of Economic Development, Georgia Department of Community Affairs, utilities, and local non-profits.
Requirements. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, economic development, business, communications, public relations, or related field. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work and be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with three to five years’ experience or service. Credentials in economic development or tourism from a state or national level organization, preferred. Bilingual a strong plus.
A proven track record of successfully working with economic development organization, governments and community stakeholders is extremely important.
