The Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) is the state's sales and marketing arm, the lead agency for attracting new business investment, encouraging the expansion of existing industry and small businesses, locating new markets for Georgia products, attracting tourists to Georgia, and promoting the state as a destination for arts and location for film, music and digital entertainment projects, as well as planning and mobilizing state resources for economic development.

GDEcD’s Administration Division provides administrative support services for the department, including accounting, finance, budgeting, benefits, human resources, fleet management, information technology, risk management, contracting, leases and procurement. The Receptionist is the first point of contact with visitors and callers to the GDEcD office, ensuring a warm welcome and courteous, helpful assistance. The Receptionist will greet in-person visitors then inform the appropriate team member of the visitor’s arrival or direct the visitor to the appropriate location, and answer calls to be handled or screened and routed to the appropriate unit, team member, other state agency, or external entity as necessary. Set hours of 8am until 5pm weekdays (with a one-hour lunch break) are required for this position.

The Receptionist will also perform the following duties:

  • Keeping the lobby neat and stocked with GDEcD and partner publications
  • Setting-up and maintaining the main meeting room, including helping with audio-visual and other needs as necessary
  • Receiving packages and ensuring delivery to proper team member; assisting team members with shipping and preparing shipping labels as necessary, andwith locating anticipated packages
  • Placing work orders as necessary for maintenance needs
  • Serving as a fire warden for the agency, maintaining knowledge of procedures and assisting team members and visitors during drills and emergencies
  • Assisting accounting by undergoing and passing training and a background check to obtain a purchasing card (p-card), and purchasing items for the administration division, including supplies, registrations, etc.; and reconciling transactions monthly
  • Assisting human resources with various activities, including ensuring that jobs are posted to and removed from the website, reviewing resumes for minimum requirements, and distributing resumes to hiring managers
  • Scheduling meetings and meeting rooms as requested
  • Assisting with other administrative tasks, including helping other divisions, as requested
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications and Competencies:

  • High school diploma or GED AND Six months of experience handling customer's questions, complaints and/or providing information
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Strong oral, written, interpersonal communication and customer service skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Must be willing to submit to Background/Credit checks, and be responsible for managing the Division’s State Purchasing Card

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of experience in a customer service setting, including knowledge of calming techniques and exercising good judgment regarding proper escalation of questions/concerns
  • Demonstrated proficiency in working with a diverse population
  • Basic math proficiency
  • Knowledge of Georgia state government
  • Ability to learn new software applications
