Season of Giving
Although Christmas seems to come earlier and earlier, December is my favorite time of the year. It is a time of giving - both personally and in our communities – that really starts at the end of November. We begin to look around us to identify needs in our communities and work on ways to fill those needs. We see it in food drives and clothing drives. We adopt children and families for Christmas and we donate our time and resources to our churches, shelters, non-profits and the homeless.
On the personal level, we start thinking about our family and friends and what would be the perfect gift for them. Things tend to slow down a bit (if you don’t count the Christmas parties!) and many of us travel some and plan to spend some quality time with our loved ones.
The same is true for GEDA. We don’t meet in December to allow our members to focus on home. Work continues on the plans for next year as the new board, officers and committee/SIG chairs transition into their new or continued roles and we begin planning for our legislative event in January.
As my year as Chair draws to a close, I want to give thanks again to everyone who worked with me and helped us have such a successful year. I encourage you to reach out to Kelly and Kevin and thank them as they close out the year and make sure that nothing is left undone. GEDA will continue to prosper with the wonderful new leadership team led by Pat Merritt. We are all truly blessed beyond what we deserve and I wish for you Happy Holidays and a wonderful Christmas season!
