POSITION DESCRIPTION:
For more than 170 years the Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce has been the voice for business in the greater Columbus region. Advancing economic growth, inclusion, and community vibrancy that is necessary for business growth, the Chamber is the leader in economic and community development. Through a variety of coordinated initiatives, the Chamber and its partners work to positively impact the economic vitality and enhance the quality of life in the region, while supporting the growth and prosperity of Chamber affiliated businesses.
The Senior Manager of Communications is responsible for implementing and managing the communications strategy for the Chamber of Commerce and the initiatives that we support. Responsible for effective communication to chamber members, businesses, community stakeholders, media, and others throughout the region to ensure coordinated and cohesive communication that is aligned with the economic growth, inclusion and the overall Chamber brand identity.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop, implement, and manage the Chamber’s communications strategy ensuring effective coordination and distribution of messaging aligned with our brand image; including applicable third-party engagements.
• Work with all departments within the organization to ensure brand consistency and alignment in all external communications.
• Develop, implement and manage all social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and other appropriate channels) for the Chamber and affiliates while quickly building an online community that enhances the reach of our communications and attracts new supporters and investors.
• Manage appropriate components of the external community branding and marketing campaign (i.e. We Do Amazing) and serve as the point person for the regular engagement with and management of the marketing agency of record to keep all projects on track with deadlines assigned and through completion.
• Develop, implement and manage a strategy to gain positive media coverage of all types, for the region and maintain relationships with all media outlets (local and external). o Build and own media relationships at the local, regional, state and where applicable the national level.
• Manage all advertising budgets and align all work to guarantee the best return on investment for the organization and stakeholders as directed. Also, support the strategic direction of outreach components of all internal budgets.
• Oversee and support all communications for the Chamber and its initiatives including Columbus 2025 (community strategy), ChooseColumbusGA (economic development), We Do Amazing (community brand), StartUP Columbus (innovation/entrepreneurism), Young Professionals and Partners-In-Education.
• Serve a point person for sourcing content to drive activity on our digital platforms.
• Align communications and media timelines with overall organizational strategy and timing for other major departments.
• Develop a strategy that leverages our digital channels as potential revenue generation sources.
• Analyze data and information established in consulting engagements to develop and manage the organization’s brand and communication strategy.
• Lead internal alignment of brand strategy objectives.
• Implement internal measurements for implementation of and success toward communications objectives.
• Provide monthly updates, including data related to success of efforts.
• Oversee organizational marketing activities.
• Manage organizations database of contacts.
• Participate in the look and messaging of all board(s) and stakeholder communications and presentations to ensure cohesive message and alignment with brand strategy.
• Provide administrative support as needed.
• Support CEO’s social media, written and visual presentations.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the President & CEO.
SKILLS & EDUCATION
Education: Must hold a bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience: A minimum of five years of professional experience in marketing, management of communications, public relations for a public or private entity. Work with or significant exposure to marketing, communications, brand strategy firms and understanding of economic development and community development are desired.
Required Skills:
• Superior written and oral communications skills
• Skilled in Adobe Creative Suite – Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro
• Experience with CRM database, Constant Contact, Survey Monkey, or similar, Google Analytics, and Word Press
• Use of digital media (including websites, social media, video, photography)
• Functional understanding of web technology and the latest trends in digital communications
• Experience speaking in public and to the media
• Experience and comfort working with high level public officials and business executives
• Ability to work with colleagues both internal and external
• Must have effective presentation, interpersonal, and leadership skills
• Prior experience working with or in a marketing/communication agency, a plus.
