Job Description & Details:

The City of Norcross is looking for a Full-time Economic Development Manager. The Economic Development Manager supports the Economic Development Department in achieving its goal of growing and sustaining the local economy and tax base of the City of Norcross. The Economic Development Manager will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including business and community outreach, project management, data collection and analysis, marketing/promotion, and organizational development. This includes duties such as interfacing with businesses and other stakeholder organizations in the community, as well as promoting the city to prospective investors.

Examples of Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead business retention and expansion activities through active and regular engagement with existing business establishments throughout the city.
Represent and promote the City of Norcross to prospective businesses, investors, and developers.
Provide data, analysis, and project management support (social demographics/economic research, site selection analysis, etc.)
Provide staff coordination and support for the activities of the Downtown Development Authority (DDA). Attend meetings of local chambers of commerce and other civic/business organizations, as necessary. Assist with the planning and execution of various events focused on supporting the overall goals of the department, including business openings, ribbon cuttings, networking events, and educational seminars. Coordinate with the city’s marketing team to develop and update promotional and marketing materials and provide regular content for website, newsletters, e-blasts, and social media.
Interface with and maintain meaningful and effective professional relationships with the various local, county, and state economic development partner organizations.
Attend industry events and conferences as well as professional development events.
Work closely with other city departments on projects related to permitting, infrastructure, and real estate development.
Support the preparation of proposals and agenda items for Mayor & Council, DDA, and other city boards and committees.
Support the preparation of grant and award applications, as needed.

Typical Qualifications 

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Public Policy, Urban Planning, Political Science or similar field.
Minimum of one to three years of experience in a related field, preferably with a local government or similar agency.
Successful candidates must have strong communication skills – both verbal and written.
Proven ability to organize and manage teams.
Valid State of Georgia driver’s license (Non-commercial Class A or B); with a satisfactory motor vehicle record(MVR).
Ability to work on-site with limited opportunities for remote work.
Availability for occasional travel to fulfill the duties of the position.
Must be able to attend meetings and events on evenings and weekends when necessary.
Experience and proficiency with MS Office is required. Experience with CoStar, LoopNet, and CRM/ERP packages is preferred.

Performs other tasks that support the economic development of the City of Norcross.

his is a full-time position. Job has recurring work situations involving high degrees of discretion and variety. The need for accuracy and effective implementation of programs and routines is high. The Incumbent operates independently, must have private transportation, and is willing to work irregular hours, if necessary. The scope of this position is to engender business growth by increasing the viability of the businesses residing in the City of Norcross.

Contact is typically with co-workers, elected officials, business executives, investors and real estate developers, members of civic and business groups, and the general public. The nature of the interaction is generally to deliver and exchange information, provide services, and resolve problems.

Competencies:
This position is part of a dynamic work group with a high degree of public interaction. It requires the ability to multi-task, respond to changing priorities, and, work with limited supervision.
Knowledge of local government rules, city code, and, legal aspects of local government administration. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking. Fluency or working knowledge of Spanish is highly desirable.
Skilled in interpersonal relations and relationship building.

Knowledge and ability to comprehend and analyze demographics/business market research.
