JOB SUMMARY
The Economic Development Staff Assistant supports the City of Forest Park’s mission to drive economic growth and revitalization. This position supports programs, projects, and initiatives that attract investment, strengthen local businesses, and enhance community development.
Working under the general supervision of the Economic Development Director, the Staff Assistant collaborates with internal departments and external partners to advance strategies that promote business expansion, community development, and strategic
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provide administrative and logistical support to the Economic Development Department, including scheduling, correspondence, recordkeeping, and project coordination.
Prepare meeting agendas and minutes, process payables, and assist with monthly financial and compliance reporting.
Support departmental programs, projects, and community outreach events through effective coordination and communication.
Assist with grant applications, data tracking, and preparation of reports, presentations, and marketing materials.
Maintain accurate databases, records, and files to ensure transparency, accuracy, and accountability. Coordinate and support the City’s three board authorities—the Downtown Development Authority, Urban Redevelopment Agency, and Development Authority—including meetings, member management, and regulatory compliance.
Prepare and distribute board meeting materials, record minutes, and maintain official records and webpages.
Facilitate audits, budgeting, and financial reporting processes for all board authorities.
Manage board-related logistics, including travel arrangements, insurance, and special events.
Promote and manage Film Forest Park (film and television production activity in Forest Park)
Coordinating site visits, permitting, and approvals
Executing contracts and managing collection fees
Assisting with marketing efforts to position Forest Park as a film-friendly destination
Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by department leadership.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent; and one (1) year of related experience that includes secretarial work, office administration, basic bookkeeping, reception work, customer service, records management, and personal computer operations, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred in business, marketing, urban planning, public policy, economic development, or related field.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in economic development, project coordination, business development, or related public-private sector work.
Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Excellent organizational and project management skills with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; confident public speaker and presenter.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, database management, social media platforms, and website content management systems; familiarity with data visualization or design tools a plus.
Experience in project coordination, community engagement, stakeholder outreach, and event management.
Skilled in marketing, branding, and storytelling for community development initiatives.
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, business owners, and residents.
Elevated level of professionalism, integrity, sound judgment, and collaborative mindset. Knowledge of economic development principles, practices, and trends.

The work is primarily sedentary, with occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
