August Chair's Letter
I hope that all of you were able to enjoy vacation time this summer and spend time with family and friends. It is that time of year again when school is starting back and football season is about to begin. We hope that you will continue to plan on participating in GEDA in-person meetings, as well as in our virtual options.
The GEDA professional development committee just wrapped up a webinar featuring Alfie Meeks. Alfie did a great job updating us on websites that we can use locally to help measure our local economy. Jason Dunn, Chair of the professional development committee, has scheduled another webinar for September 30th, featuring Chata Spikes, Director of Public Affairs with the Atlanta Police Department, will speak on Media Relations.
Please make sure to join Serra Hall, Chair of the GEDA Existing Industry and Workforce Development Committee, who has partnered with UGA Carl Vinson Institute of Government, for their third webinar on Thursday, August 26th from 1:00-2:00pm. The webinar will be on Data and Strategies for Reaching Unemployed and Underemployed Individuals.
If you haven’t already done so, please register for our August Monthly Meeting on August 9th at the Mill on Etowah in Canton/Cherokee County. We will hear from the developers of the Mill, which was a Deal of the Year award-winner in 2019, as well as the CEO of Reformation Brewery, headquartered there, and Misti Martin, President & CEO of the Cherokee Office of Economic Development regarding their involvement.
Registration is now open for the GEDA 2021 Annual Conference in Savannah, Georgia. Dorie Bacon, GEDA Annual Conference Chair, has planned a great program for this year and you are not going to want to miss out. This year’s conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency on September 15-17, 2021.
We look forward to seeing many of you in August and September.
Take Care and Stay Safe
Andrea
