Cook. (March 2023 Chair's Column)

Posted By: Benjy Thompson GEDA News,

As Grant and and our team at the office will tell you, I tend to finish this column at the last minute. Or after the last minute. I’m sure this is frustrating to them, but they’ve been very patient with me, perhaps knowing that they only have a few more months to put up with me.

Unfortunately, I got the procrastination gene from my mom. There is no doubt about it. Mom always had about a hundred things going, and she had a hard time finishing any of them. She also didn’t have much patience for things. For example, she was not a good cook. She didn’t enjoy it at all. The benefit for me (eventually) was that I had to become a decent cook if I wanted more hot meals, so I was pretty self-sufficient as I left the house for college and adulthood.

I’m still the primary cook these days – not that great at it, but not too bad. My wife doesn’t enjoy it – she doesn’t have the patience for cooking, either.  But we have a good system at our house. I do most of the cooking, she does most of the cleaning.  We both jump in where needed, and we’re good partners on getting things done around our house.

That reminds me of how GEDA works.  Grant has jumped quickly out of the gate as our new President; he’s energetic, with exciting new ideas and effort.  We have great support from our staff through the Nardone Consulting Group, Inc. (NCG) (that’s Natalie, Renee, Stacie and Alia) as one of many organizations that they help manage.  The Officers, Board members, and Committee/SIG Chairs have volunteered their time to GEDA and provide fantastic support for the Association’s work.  And our Members stay involved, participating in events and activities that assist all of us in our success.

We have a great Team at GEDA – and it’s necessary, because we need all of us working together to get all the things done that GEDA has going on, particularly during the Legislative session.  We appreciate the patience and feedback from our members, and will do our best to communicate with all of you and continuously improve for our community.

Speaking of our community and association's work, we hope that you’ll be able to join us for our next virtual legislative update and the March monthly luncheon.

See you all soon.
